Abstract: This sermon examines one of the most disturbing passages in the Old Testament—the corruption of Eli's sons, priests who stole from the sacrifices, defiled the sanctuary, and turned the altar of God into a stumbling block for all of Israel. Yet God is not caught off guard. While the priesthood rots, He quietly raises a child named Samuel in its shadow. In the same breath as His judgment on Eli's house, He makes a promise: 'I will raise up for myself a faithful priest.' Traced through Samuel, through Zadok, and finally to Jesus Christ—the High Priest who did not steal the sacrifice but became it—this promise reveals a central truth of the passage: human corruption cannot nullify God's sovereignty and faithfulness.
